About Bálint Bognár
I am a design leader and conceptual thinker with a voracious appetite for cultural exploration.
I am driven by an interest in strategic brand building and the exploration of the cultural, political, and economic contexts that determine the relevance of a designer’s work. As a menswear specialist with over 15 years of experience in product creation, I am well-versed in crafting details, developing fabrics, honing fits, and refining assortments. This ability to create and translate broad conceptual strategies into dynamic product offerings enables me to fluently engage at all phases of the design process.
Cultivating a strong point of view, aesthetically and strategically, is central to my approach, but I also recognize I will never have all the answers. To that end, I am dedicated to continuous research, exercising curiosity, and empowering those around me, however I may.
Compelling design is based on function, inspires emotion, and ultimately tells a story. My approach is informed by the past while investigating the possibilities of the future.
Eloquent solutions lie within limitations and change.
My inspiration and expression are not limited to one discipline or medium; I deeply value critical thinking, the pursuit of innovation, comprehension of the past, and a foundation of humility.
Currently I am based in San Francisco, California, where I lead design concepts for Old Navy’s men’s and boys’ multi-billion dollar businesses. In this role I connect culture, behavior, and innovation to create brand growth and relevance at scale by way of accessible, compelling design. Previously I have worked for Levi’s Made and Crafted, John Varvatos, Armani Exchange, and Dirk Bikkembergs.
I welcome your interest and would be glad to hear from you, whether for a brainstorm over coffee or a formalized creative project.
